SPANISH FORK — A 17-year-old boy was killed and a Spanish Fork man arrested following a fatal crash Friday morning.

Garrett Frank Harris, 44, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of automobile homicide, DUI causing injury, two counts of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failing to stay in a lane.

Just before 7:30 a.m. police respond to a multivehicle crash near 1900 W. Arrowhead Trail in Spanish Fork.

Harris drifted into oncoming traffic while driving his pickup truck and hit three other vehicles, according to a police affidavit. A 17-year-old boy in the second vehicle that was hit was killed, according to police.

No other injuries were reported.

“During questioning Garrett admitted to having smoked methamphetamine two days prior to the accident,” the affidavit states. Garrett also admitted that there would be a meth pipe in his truck and one in his belongings that were with him at the hospital.”

According to court records, Harris has a lengthy criminal history including charges and convictions for forgery, fleeing from police and weapons-related crimes, and has been cited numerous time over the past year for failing to stay in his lane or driving on a revoked license.

On Sept. 30 he was twice cited for failing to stay in his lane in just one hour, according to court records. The first time was at 10:21 a.m. on I-215 and 5600 South. The second was on I-15 near Lindon at 11:01 a.m., court records state.
