Klayton Kidrick grabs a brick while competing in the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 regional competition at Interstate Brick in West Jordan on Friday. The competition, which will crown the World’s Best Bricklayer, is designed to test the speed, skill and stamina of each mason by challenging them to build the best 26-foot brick wall in one hour with precision craftsmanship. The winning team is determined by a judging panel that detracts bricks from the total number of bricks laid based on workmanship infractions. The mason with the highest brick count at the end of judging qualifies for a spot on the 2021 World Championship roster and the title Utah’s Best Bricklayer. The national competition, which will be held in Las Vegas, features prizes totaling more than $100,000, including a new Ford F-250 Super Duty 4x4 truck, Multiquip Mortar Mixer and tools.
