WEST VALLEY CITY — A man allegedly fleeing police in a stolen vehicle was arrested after hitting another car and causing it to roll over.
Ramon Beltran, 37, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of being in a stolen vehicle, failing to stop for police, possessing burglary tools, theft by receiving stolen property, and failing to remain at the scene of an injury accident.
About 9:20 p.m. Monday, a West Valley police officer patrolling the area near 3800 South and 4400 West spotted a Nissan Sentra with no visible license plate, according to police. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over when it did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign.
The vehicle sped away from the officer who did not give chase, according to police. But at the intersection of 3500 South and 4400 West, the car went through a red light and struck another vehicle, knocking it onto its side, police stated.
Beltran got out of his car and ran. He was chased down by police after running about 100 yards and arrested, according to a police affidavit.
A woman inside the vehicle that was hit suffered cuts to her right hand caused by broken glass, police stated. She was treated and released on scene.
Inside Beltran’s pocket, police found shaved keys, typically used for burglaries, the affidavit states. A stolen license plate that did not belong to the car Beltran was driving was also found, and the vehicle itself was listed as stolen out of Salt Lake City, according to the affidavit.
Beltran has a history of burglary and being in stolen vehicles, police noted in the affidavit.
