CEDAR CITY — A 24-year-old Cedar City man died in a traffic accident Tuesday morning.

The crash happened about 6:50 a.m. on state Route 56 and Iron Springs Road, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Tyrell T. Robinson was stopped in a Mitsubishi Eclipse waiting to make a left turn onto S.R. 56, according to a prepared statement from the UHP. A “large commercial vehicle” was preparing to turn right on Iron Springs Road, while a Ford F-350 pulling a trailer was moving in another lane on the highway, the UHP stated.

“The driver of the Mitsubishi pulled into the intersection to turn left and was struck on the driver’s door by the westbound Ford F-350, in a T-bone style collision,” according to the UHP. “Mr. Robinson, the driver of the Mitsubishi, suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the crash scene. ... It is unknown at this time why Mr. Robinson pulled in front of the pickup truck, but it appears he may not have seen the truck due to the location of the commercial vehicle approaching the intersection in the right-hand turn lane.”

The 58-year-old driver of the F-350 was not injured.
