SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Wednesday after police say he ran over a woman in an apparent money dispute.
Richard Keano Salas, 22, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.
On Aug. 4, a woman whom Salas allegedly had a dispute with over money was walking in the area of 300 North and 700 West when Salas “(followed) her around in his vehicle and subsequently ran her over with his vehicle,” according to a police booking affidavit. “The victim sustained substantial bodily injury and was transported to the hospital.”
Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking said the woman suffered “broken bones” and remained hospitalized Thursday, but he did not have additional details about the extent of her injuries.
Detectives got a license plate number of the vehicle from surveillance cameras in the area of the incident, the affidavit states. On Wednesday, police found the vehicle and arrested Salas.
Salas claimed the woman used pepper spray on him and “he feared for his safety and was angered by her actions. This led him to running the (woman) over with his vehicle,” according to the affidavit.
