KEARNS — Shortly after 8 p.m., a car accident in Kearns claimed the life of one woman and badly injured two others.

Unified police officers were meeting with a 26-year-old woman at Jefferson Junior High, 5830 S. 5600 West, and when they finished, she attempted to turn northbound on 5600 West, according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

“She went to leave the school, she drove out on 5600 West to go northbound and did not see a southbound vehicle coming,” Gray said, “and that southbound vehicle T-boned her (car).”

The car traveling southbound was driven by a 36-year old woman and was carrying a 14-year-old female passenger. The driver of that car died at the scene, Gray said.

“She was extricated from the car by the officers who were on scene and witnessed the accident,” Gray said. “They attempted CPR in an attempt to save her life. The 14-year-old female is in serious condition.”

Gray said the 26-year-old driver of the northbound car was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

“We don’t have any signs of impairment, at this point,” Gray said. “Our crash analysis reconstruction team is out here, and they will be doing a complete reconstruction of the accident to make a determination on exactly what happened.”
