SALT LAKE CITY — Police responded to a car crash that left one dead and another injured at the intersection of North Temple and State Street at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead on scene. A woman driving the other car was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life threatening, according to Sgt. Keith Horrocks, with the Salt Lake City police.

The two drivers were the only people involved in the accident.

The crash occurred after police say the woman’s Nissan ran a red light while heading east and struck a white Honda in the intersection. The woman was impaired at the time of the crash, according to Horrocks.

“The driver of that Nissan admitted to officers on scene that she had consumed alcohol and was likely drunk,” he said.

Charges haven’t been filed against the woman, who is still in the hospital, but will likely come soon, Horrocks said.
