LAYTON — A man who allegedly brought a knife to a fistfight is now facing an attempted murder count.
Darryl Levi Lindley, 21, of Layton, was charged Tuesday in 2nd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony; obstructing justice, a second-degree felony; and possession of a weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.
On Jan. 22, Lindley challenged his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend to a fight in a parking lot in Layton, according to charging documents.
They exchanged text messages “saying that no weapons would be used ... but Lindley brought more than his fists to the fight,” the charges state.
During the fight, Lindley pulled out a “box cutter-type blade” and lunged several times at the other man, stabbing and cutting him, according to the charges.
The ex-girlfriend, who was recording the fight on her phone, took the man to a local hospital where the victim told emergency crews “he could not feel his body. He was found to have over 16 stab or cut wounds” on his wrist, arm, back and chest, the charges state.
While at the hospital, the ex-girlfriend continued to receive text messages from Lindley. When she told Lindley the injuries to the other man were bad, he replied in part, “I was tryna kill him,” according to the charges,
When she asked why he stabbed him, Lindley replied, “Bro idc ima just do my time I wanted to kill him.”
Charging documents note that Lindley was on probation at the time of his arrest for robbery with a dangerous weapon, and that the judge told him that he was “on zero tolerance probation” because he had already absconded from probation once by fleeing to Texas.
Prosecutors have requested he be held without bail.
