HEBER CITY — One person is dead following what is believed to have been a head-on collision on U.S. 40 Saturday.

The driver of a small passenger car crossed from the westbound lane into eastbound traffic where it collided with a pickup truck just after 6:15 p.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol, which is investigated the accident. The driver was pinned in the car and died at the scene as a result of the accident.

The name of the driver has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

The driver of the truck was injured but is expected to recover, according to UHP.

Witnesses reported seeing the passenger car swerving prior the accident and alcohol is being investigated as a factor, the UHP said in a statement.

Both directions of traffic on U.S. 40 at the site, about 13 miles south of Heber City, were impacted for at least three hours as the accident was cleared.
