San Francisco experienced a 3.6-magnitude earthquake late last week, ending the year with quite a shakeup.
- The earthquake hit around 5:41 a.m. at the epicenter, which was on the San Andreas fault south of Muir Beach, CBS San Francisco reports.
- The quake was felt in San Francisco and Marin County.
- There were no immediate reports of damage from the quake
The new earthquake comes at the end of a year of massive earthquakes throughout the country, including some massive shakes in Utah. In fact, a 5.7 magnitude struck Magna and was felt throughout the Wasatch Front on March 18, just days after much of the Beehive State and the United States went into a lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
So where did Utah’s earthquake rank among the top quakes of the year? Well, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, a number of Utah’s earthquakes made the list of “significant earthquakes” from the year.
In fact, six earthquakes from Utah made the list, including:
- 5.7-magnitude on March 18, in Magna, Utah.
- 4.6-magnitude on March 18, in Magna, Utah.
- 4.6-magnitude on March 18, in Magna, Utah.
- 4.2-magnitude on April 16, 2020, in Magna, Utah.
- 4.2-magnitude on April 15, 2020, in Magna, Utah.
- 3.9-magnitude on March 23, 2020, in Magna, Utah.
The rest of the list includes earthquakes from throughout the world, spanning from China to California to Nevada and more.
The USGS described a significant earthquake as ones with high magnitude, a number of “did you feel it responses” and alert levels.
