SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man has died after suffering a gunshot wound early Saturday.

Salt Lake police say Emilio Salazar, 28, succumbed to injuries he sustained in the shooting at 1172 W. California Ave. (1300 South).

Officers were called on a report of shots fired at the home just before 2 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Salazar with a gunshot wound, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Bill Manzanares, who declined to disclose where Salazar was shot.

He was taken to a hospital in “extremely critical condition,” Manzanares said.

“Detectives are on scene attempting to figure out what happened. We do not have a suspect in custody at this time. There is no danger right now to the community, but we’re still trying to figure out what happened,” the lieutenant said.

He said the house where the shooting occurred has “gang-related ties” and the occupants were not cooperating with police.

“Most of the information that we’re getting, we’re getting from neighbors,” Manzanares said.
