Did Brian Laundrie have a phone when he went on the road trip with Gabby Petito? A new report suggests he did.

Petito and Laundrie went on a road trip this summer, driving across the country, stopping in Utah along their journey. But only Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1. Ten days later, Petito’s family reported her missing. About one week later, Laundrie’s family reported that Laundrie had not been seen in days.

On Sunday, Sept. 19, authorities found human remains that matched the description of Petito. It was confirmed two days later that the remains were Petito.

Wyoming coroner confirms Gabby Petito’s body was found and she died of homicide

WFLA recently reviewed the police body camera footage from a domestic abuse incident in Moab, Utah, on Aug. 12 between the couple. The video shows that Petito and Laundrie both had phones on them when police pulled them over.

In the video, about 42 minutes into the full footage, Laundrie reaches into the passenger side of his van, WFLA reports. He hands an officer Petito’s cellphone, according to WFLA. That phone then stays with Petito.

Later in the video, Laundrie “is seen slipping what appears to be a different phone into his pocket. Toward the end of the stop, you can see Laundrie pull a phone out of his pocket,” according to WFLA.

Brian Laundrie bought a new phone before he disappeared, but it is ‘not a burner,’ lawyer says

Questions about Laundrie’s phone have risen in recent days. Earlier this week, Laundrie’s lawyer confirmed to reporters that Laundrie bought a new cellphone in the days after he returned home from the road trip with Petito, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino told NewsNation Now reporter Brian Entin that Brian Laundrie bought a new phone on Sept. 4, 2021, and opened an AT&T account. However, he left the phone with his parents when he said he was going on a hike in Carlton Reserve on Sept. 14, which was the last time his family reportedly saw him.

Bertolino said that the new phone is “not a burner.”

But it’s still unclear what happened to Laundrie’s original phone and Petito’s phone. Per WFLA, there’s no answer as to whether or not the FBI has those phones.
