WEST JORDAN — A West Jordan man has been arrested in a disturbing child pornography and sex abuse investigation.

Derek Von Taylor, 29, was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children task force Tuesday night and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, 11 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, and lewdness involving a child.

The investigation began in November when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip that someone had uploaded “hundreds of files of child pornography” to an electronic service provider, according to a police affidavit.

The center said the files contained videos of infants and children being sexually abused and in some cases tortured.

Task force investigators served a warrant on Taylor’s home and questioned him.

“Taylor stated he was sexually attracted to children. During the execution of the search warrant, numerous files of child pornography similar to those described above were located on Taylor’s cellphone and on a hard drive,” the affidavit states.

Taylor also said he had sexually abused two children under the age of 10 that he was previously acquainted with, investigators wrote in the affidavit.

Correction: A typo in a previous version said Taylor was previously acquitted of abusing two children but should have said he was previously acquainted with them.
