- A new Salt Lake City Edition of Monopoly is going to be released in 2026.
- The game will replace classic square names with local Salt Lake City attractions.
- Local will have the opportunity to make suggestions as to what goes on the board.
Mr. Monopoly himself made an appearance in downtown Salt Lake City on Wednesday afternoon to announce a new special edition of the classic board game based on Utah’s capital that is to be released next year.
The Salt Lake City Edition of Monopoly will replace the classic board game’s famous Atlantic City squares, with representations of beloved Salt Lake City attractions, neighborhoods and local favorites. The announcement was made during a press conference at Pioneer Park.
“This game is going to look completely different from the game that you remember playing as a kid. We’re going to replace all the popular squares, Indiana Avenue and railroads with things around Salt Lake City,” said Aaron Green, a representative with TopTrumps USA, the global licensee for Hasbro.
“So you’re going to see the different parks. You might see a famous basketball team, Capitol building, universities, museums, restaurants, your favorite dive bars, ice cream shops, yogurt shops, all the things that you remember as a kid, that you love going to, is going to be memorialized on Monopoly: Salt Lake City Edition,” Green added.
The game will also include customized Community Chest and Chance playing cards, paying homage to the region in every detail of the game.
There will be 22 squares for the special edition game, which also will be customized to reflect the city.
Starting Wednesday through Dec. 26, Salt Lake City locals and tourists can share locations that they would like to see featured on the board. This can be done by sending an email to saltlakecity@toptrumps.com.
“Send in your ideas, tell me what should be on this game. Because this is not my hometown. We want this game to be played here for years and years to come,” Green said.
He added that he and his team will spend time meeting with local civic leaders and business leaders as they curate what will be featured on the game.
Monopoly: Salt Lake City Edition will launch nationwide during summer of 2026 and will be available in local stores in and around the Salt Lake City area.
What cities already have their own Monopoly?
The Salt Lake City Edition of Monopoly isn’t the only special edition of the game that has been announced this week.
On Tuesday, the city of Raleigh, North Carolina, received its own visit from Mr. Monopoly with an announcement of a special edition for that city, according to WRAL News. Some other cities that have Monopoly editions are Atlanta, Boston, Kansas City and New York City.
Green shared that he and his team do about 20 new editions a year.
“Monopoly debuted in 1935 and there are hundreds of editions now, from Star Wars and Harry Potter to the city editions,” Green said.
Other Monopoly editions are based on different cities and states, universities, movies, TV shows, brands, professional sports teams and more.
What are other Utah-themed games?

Dowdle puzzles also reflect the spirit of Utah cities
While not necessarily a game, puzzles are a popular activity for the whole family, and the Utah-based Dowdle company has a variety of puzzles designed after a number of locations in Utah.
The puzzles capture the spirit of a number of the state’s cities, such as Salt Lake City, St. George, Park City and even Tooele.
There are also puzzles featuring iconic Utah landmarks such as Delicate Arch, Zion National Park, Golden Spike National Monument and Lake Powell. The major universities around the state such as Utah State University, University of Utah and Brigham Young University have also been captured in Dowdle puzzles.
