Multiple grass fires ignited along I-80 in Salt Lake County on Wednesday.
According to the Salt Lake City Fire Department, multiple crews gathered to tackle one blaze located near 5600 West and 200 South in Salt Lake City.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department said the fire near 5600 West started near I-80 and burned approximately five acres. Crews were “mopping up” around 9:43 p.m.
The remaining danger comes from two power poles that were burned through and are at risk of falling, according to fire crews. The nearby Maverick gas station on 300 South was evacuated as a precaution.
The fire department announced power outages due to burnt power poles between 400 South and 300 North along the 5600 West corridor near I-80. Rocky Mountain Power crews plan to oversee repairs throughout the night.
Approximately 15 firefighters gathered at the scene of another fire on I-80, this one near 7200 West. The Salt Lake City Fire Department estimates the second blaze is approximately 5 acres in size.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department relinquished command over the fire near 7200 West by 10:30 p.m., leaving crews to perform the final mop up of hot spots.
Fire crews requested that the public avoid the area of both fires.
