The Utah chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees had to do some last minute editing of its monthly newsletter with a pen to correct the name of the U.S. Senate candidate.

The union's August newsletter endorses a full slate of Utah Democrats for statewide offices. But the flyer went to the printer with a typographical error listing Brent Morris as the party's nominee for the seat held by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.The printed name was crossed out with a pen and the correct name of Brian Moss written in by hand.

Moss, who trailed Hatch by 47 percentage points in a recent public opinion poll, has had a problem with name recognition. But AFSCME president Gordon Ottley said the 1,400-member public employees union knows Moss and didn't intend to slight him.

"It was just a typographical error, and we didn't realize it until it was run," Ottley said Tuesday.
