Marriott Corp. has completed the previously announced purchase of the Wag's family restaurant chain from Walgreen Co. of Deerfield, Ill.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.The Wag's chain includes 91 free-standing, 24-hour restaurants in Florida and Illinois, four of which are under construction.
Marriott will continue to operate the restaurants under the Wag's name for now.
With the addition of Wag's, Marriott now operates more than 460 family restaurants under various concepts in 24 states. The company expects to complete the acquisition of the 34-unit Bickford's Family Fare chain this fall.
Walgreen's sale of the Wag's restaurants substantially removes Walgreens from the restaurant business, allowing it to concentrate on drug store expansion.
