Vanderbilt basketball coach C.M. Newton was named athletic director at Kentucky, his alma mater. Newton, who played basketball on Kentucky's 1951 national championship team, will take over the job April 1. Newton, who last season took Vanderbilt to the final 16 of the NCAA tournament, recently won his 500th game.
