Nine former Snow College students were honored by the college's alumni association Saturday as part of Snow's Homecoming 1989 celebration.

The association will present eight distinguished alumni awards and one community service award at its annual alumni banquet.This year's distinguished alumni include Wilbur Braithwaite, Manti; Dean Christensen, Orem; Byrl Brown Dorland, Tarrytown, N.Y.; Afton Hansen, Mayfield, Sanpete County, Charles (Chuck) Hyer, Malad, Idaho; Arthur Nielsen, Salt Lake City; Wanda Robertson, Salt Lake City; and Maurine Scott, Ephraim. The community service award recipient is Gwen Tuttle Monroe, Scipio.

Braithwaite, class of '46, recently retired as a teacher and head basketball coach at Manti High School, where he consistently produced winning teams. He was named to the National High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Christensen, class of '33, is the former superintendent of schools in Duchesne County. He has served on the faculties of the University of Utah, University of Oregon and Brigham Young University.

Dorland, class of '36, is a writer and teacher. She was national director of the Washington Irving grave site restoration.

Hansen, class of '50, recently retired as a professor of biological sciences at Snow College. He was a member of the faculty for 36 years.

Hyer, class of '54, is a successful rancher in Idaho and is active in a manufacturing firm known as Cement Tec.

Nielsen, class of '34, is a prominent attorney in the Salt Lake area. He served on the Snow College Institutional Council for a number of years, and for a period as chairman of the council.

Robertson, class of '23, is an educator and retired chairwoman of the department of elementary education at the University of Utah.

Scott, class of '29, is a retired school teacher from the Montana school system, and an avid supporter of Snow College.

Monroe, class of '45, is a former teacher at Millard High School. She has been active in church and community projects over the years.
