The 25th annual Virginia F. Cutler Lecture Series will honor Brigham Young University economics professor Clayne L. Pope on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the step-down lounge of the Smith Family Living Center.

Pope will be honored by the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences for his contributions to his field. At the same time, he will present a lecture entitled "Hidden Adversaries: The Family, Government and Pursuit of Equality."Pope helped produce the original American Heritage program, which is now a required class at the university.

Pope, who has published numerous articles in professional journals and has presented 34 papers in professional meetings and conferences, was chairman of the economics department at BYU from 1975 to 1977.

Pope was a lecturer at the University of Michigan from 1969 to 1970 and a visiting lecturer at William and Mary in 1977 and Princeton University in 1979.

He was appointed in 1980 to the executive committee of the National Bureau of Economic Research Program for the Development of the American Economy.

In 1979, Pope received the Freedom Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence in Economics and the Maeser Teaching Award in 1983.

The Cutler lecture is awarded annually to one faculty member in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences to recognize significant research contributions. It is named in honor of Virginia F. Cutler, BYU distinguished professor emeritus and former dean of the college.
