Veteran Detroit police commander Gil Hill, who played Eddie Murphy's tough-talking boss in the "Beverly Hills Cop" movies, has been elected to the Detroit City Council. Hill, 58, finished second in the 18-person field for nine council seats and his campaign platform naturally stressed law and order. He plans to retire from the force in December, which means he will be drawing his police pension as well as getting his $57,700-a-year council salary after being sworn in in January. The election was Hill's first run for public office but may not be his last. In fact, he may seek the mayoral job.
