Jack Green, former chief financial officer for a retail supermarket chain, has been appointed to perform audits for the state Department of Social Services.

Green, appointed by Gov. Norm Bangerter, will be director of liability management and will be responsible for assuring that taxes are effectively and efficiently spent, state officials said. His job is a new one, created by Bangerter in an effort to help state agencies control their finances.Green was controller and chief financial officer for Harmon City Inc., a supermarket chain. He also served as controller for the U.S. General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C.
