Sidney Wicks, former star forward at UCLA who played for Portland, Boston and San Diego in the NBA, was seriously injured Friday when his car was struck by a truck, authorities said.

Wicks, 39, underwent about three hours of surgery for abdominal injuries."They (the surgeons) removed his spleen and he is listed in serious but stable condition," a spokeswoman said.
