An Ogden man accused of raping and killing an 11-year-old Washington Terrace girl was arraigned Wednesday on a first-degree murder charge.

John Albert Taylor, 30, appeared before 2nd District Judge David Roth, who continued the hearing for a week upon a request from defense attorney Bernard Allen.Taylor is now scheduled to enter a plea to the capital murder charge on Aug. 2. Roth will then set a trial date.

Taylor is accused of sexually assaulting and strangling Charla N. King on June 23 in the girl's apartment. The nude body of the victim was found by her mother. A pair of panties had been stuffed into the girl's mouth and a telephone cord wrapped around her neck.

Prosecutors said fingerprints found on a telephone in the apartment matched those of the defendant.
