1989 World Champion Jan Bucher of Salt Lake City and 1989 World Cup mogul champion Nelson Carmichael of Steamboat Springs, Colo., head the list of athletes selected to the 1990 U.S. Freestyle Ski Team.
New members of the freestyle team, winner of the 1989 Nation's Cup for the fourth straight season, were announced this week by the U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Ski Association, based in Park City.Freestyle consists of three events: ballet, moguls and aerials.
Joining Carmichael in the mogul event is world championship silver medalist Donna Weinbrecht of West Milford, N.J., who posted two World Cup wins in 1989 but lost the title to French skier Raphaelle Monod.
The 1990 season will mark the return to World Cup competition of Steamboat Springs aerialists Maria Quintana, named to the women's select team, and Kris Feddersen, of the men's select team.
The competition season begins in September at the first Winter Pan American Games in Las Lenas, Argentina. The team also will compete at World Cup events in Lake Placid, N.Y., and Breckenridge, Colo., both in January.
