Soo Nyung Kim, the Olympic gold medalist from South Korea, and Stanislav Zabrodsky of the Soviet Union won titles Friday at the World Archery Championships.

Utah's Denise Parker took third and was the only American to place. The 18-year-old Kim, who already holds all individual world records for women, turned in a perfect nine-arrow score of 90 over 30 meters for a four-distance winning total of 338.

Kim, whose score included 20 tens and 12 nines, had dominated throughout the qualifying rounds. Her final score was eight points ahead of countrywoman Kyung Woog Kim who beat Parker in a shoot-off for second place.

"It's a personal best for me," said Parker, of South Jordan, at 15 one of the youngest competitors. She was on the American team that won Olympic bronze in Seoul last year.

"I am disappointed at losing the shoot-off, but I am also happy to have gotten that far. I certainly felt the pressure as the rounds progressed."

Just as she did at the Olympic Games, Parker performed her best in the end, scoring two perfect 10s and a 9 on her final three arrows in a gusting wind to move into a tie for second with Kim.

Zabrodsky's total was 332, just one point ahead of three other competitors with the second place going to Britain's Steven Hallard, who won a three-way shoot-off.

Just failing to make one of the eight spots in the men's finals was Olympic gold medalist Jeff Barrs of the United States, who finished ninth in semifinal competition.
