Alpine assistant Kim Thompson came away the big winner in the Tuesday Pro-Am for the University Hospital-Utah Open.
Thompson fired a 3-under-par 69 to win the pro sweeps and led his pro-am team to a third-place finish. He won $400 as the low pro and another $105 in helping his team tie for third.Colorado's Bob Eaks fired a 70 to finish second in the sweeps and earn $300. Five golfers, Mark Cornevale, Gerry Norquist, Doug Wherry, Jim Strickland and Mike Richards, won money with 71s.
Members of the winning team were pro John Vesper and amateurs Lex O'Bray, Sheldon Wilcox and Dee Korth with a 23-under-par 121 total. Second-place went to pro Tom Stankowski and amateurs Gus Paulos, Jack Larsen and Dick Jutkins.
Pro-ams Wednesday and Thursday will precede the 54-hole tournament, which begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
