UCLA football players Roman Phifer and Damion Lyons were convicted of misdemeanor battery this week in Los Angeles Municipal Court in connection with the beating last May of a student security officer.

Phifer and Lyons, who were suspended for the season, were sentenced to 24 months summary probation and ordered to perform 45 days of community service. They also were ordered to pay damages to the victim, Scott Szymanski, a UCLA student.
