Erik Osborn anchored Princeton to an American record in the 200-yard medley relay Friday night at the NCAA men's swimming and diving championships.

Princeton, which qualified second slowest for the finals, won its second straight 200 medley relay title in 1:27.31. Senior Mike Ross, freshman LeRoy Kim, junior Ty Nelson and senior Osborn broke the mark of 1:27.89 set seven hours earlier by Texas in preliminaries. The best mark before Friday was 1:28.26 by Stanford last year.David Wharton won his third straight 400 individual medley crown, giving the Southern California junior six IM titles in as many tries. His time of 3:42.62 was 3.46 seconds ahead of runner-up and teammate Ray Looze.

Texas continued to lead the team race at the meet, which concludes Saturday at Indiana University Natatorium.
