Seth Greenberg, associate head coach at Long Beach State the last three seasons, was elevated to head coach Thursday.

Greenberg replaces Joe Harrington, who was named head coach at Colorado."In hiring Seth Greenberg we maintain continuity in a program which has built a solid foundation over the past three years," Athletic Director Corey Johnson said. "Recruit signing date is a week away and this tells our prospects our program is on solid ground."

The length and financial details of Greenberg's contract were not announced.

Long Beach State was 53-36 the last three seasons, including 23-9 this season - the best in 16 years. The 49ers went to the National Invitation Tournament this year for the second time in three seasons, beating Arizona State in the first round before losing to Hawaii.

Greenberg, 33, has been an assistant coach at four other Division I programs. He served under Bill Foster when basketball was reinstated at Miami, Fla., and was with Virginia when it reached the Final Four in 1984. He was also an assistant at Pittsburgh and Columbia.

Greenberg played four seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson. His brother, Brad, is director of player personnel for the Portland Trail Blazers.
