Republican Party chairman Lee Atwater will receive chemotherapy in addition to the radiation treatments being used to combat a brain tumor.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Dr. Paul L. Kornblith described the tumor as "aggressive and dangerous" but said Atwater was fortunate that it was "quite small and has been detected early in its development."Kornblith led a team of physicians at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City who implanted radioactive isotopes into the tumor Tuesday in an effort to kill it.
