Michel Bergeron, who has four years left on his contract as coach of the Quebec Nordiques, was fired today by the NHL team.
No replacement was named immediately, although Dave Chambers, a former assistant coach with the Minnesota North Stars, is considered the leading candidate. The announcement was made at a news conference by newly named general manager Pierre Page, who said Bergeron was offered a job as a commentator for the broadcast of Nordiques' games.
Page said that Bergeron's contract, which is worth about $250,000 a year, will be honored.
