Suehiro Japanese Restaurant, a new eatery owned by veteran chef Jiro Yamamoto, has been established at Park Centre, 6933 S. 1300 East, in Salt Lake City.

The restaurant seats 75 patrons and will specialize in fine Japanese cuisine including gyoza (Japanese pot stickers), sushi, and katsu, a dish containing seasoned deep-fried pork and chicken in a barbecue sauce.Yamamoto, a certified Japanese chef, moved to Utah in 1973, and became head chef and manager of The 47 Samurai in Trolley Square.

He also worked at Vicious Rumours, Kyoto Restaurant and Sagano Restaurant before opening Yamamoto Japanese Restaurant at 150 Social Hall Avenue in December 1987.

Yamamoto sold the highly successful restaurant early last year so he could concentrate his efforts on the design and planning of a larger location, the Suehiro Japanese Restaurant.
