The Granite Youth Symphony will present a pair of concerts Wednesday and Thursday, June 27-28, before leaving for a concert tour of the East Coast.
Wednesday's performance will be in the Granite High School auditorium, 3305 S. 500 East. Thursday's, an outdoor performance, will be in Granger Park, 3600 W. 3500 South, next to Granger High School. Admission is free and starting time for each is 7 p.m.Music for each will be drawn from tour programs to be presented July 3-11 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and at New York's Carnegie Hall. Accenting a patriotic theme, selections will include "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Songs for America" and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
The July 10 Carnegie Hall concert will climax the trip for the 99-member orchestra. The group is conducted by Richard Chatelain, with assistants James W. Thompson, Cindy H. Petty and W. Evan Bateman.
The tour is being financed by donations and other fund-raising activities, with the Granite District providing buses and drivers to transport students after they fly east.
