The Portland Trail Blazers have reluctantly placed injured rookie forward Ramon Ramos on waivers.

"We pursued all other avenues but there was nothing we could do," said Geoff Petrie, the Blazers' senior vice president of operations.A Dec. 16 auto accident near Portland left Ramos, 22, in a lengthy deep coma. He was released from the hospital July 2 and has been undergoing extensive outpatient therapy.

"While we have made efforts to have Ramon placed on the suspended list or voluntarily retired list, the NBA office is requiring that he be subject to the waiver procedure," Petrie said.
