Milan Swilor, who led from start to finish, captured the 54-hole Utah Section PGA Championship Thursday at the Homestead Golf Course.
Swilor, a 31-year-old assistant at the Mountain View Golf Course, fired a 68 Thursday to finish with a 10-under-par 200 score. That was four shots better than Alpine assistant Kim Thompson, who shot three straight 68s for a 204 total.Swilor, who has a habit of collecting course records, set the Homestead course record with a second-round 65 Wednesday. Earlier this month he shot a course-record 63 at Willow Creek Country Club at the Utah Open, where he lost in a sudden-death playoff. He earned $2,200 for his victory this week.
The top five players in the Section Championship advance to play in the National Club Pro Championship at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif., Oct. 4-7.
Finishing in the top five with Swilor and Thompson were Mulligans' assistant Henry White (207), Forest Dale's Lynn Landgren (211) and West Bountiful's Mike Bicker. Bicker finished at 212 along with Willow Creek's Don Branca, but won a playoff with a par on the first hole.
Bob Betley, who finished 10th in the PGA Senior Showdown Classic Sunday, tied for 9th overall at 214, but won the senior division. That earned him a spot in the PGA Senior Championship next year.
Other top finishers were Jimmy Blair and Bruce Summerhays at 213, Brad Stone at 214 and Reid Goodliffe at 216.
