State legislators adopted a bill Thursday that would end traditional high school education after the 10th grade, channeling older students into college preparatory courses or vocational training.

The measure, which would also eliminate grade levels in the first four years of schooling, passed both the House and Senate and was sent to Gov. Barbara Roberts for her signature.Sarah Carlin Ames, a spokeswoman for Roberts, said the governor is "very supportive of the concept," but she would not say definitely that Roberts will sign the measure into law.
