Michael Powell, the only son of Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin Powell, had planned on a military career until he was badly injured in a jeep accident four years ago in Germany. "When I woke up from the accident, I had a shattered pelvis and cracked vertebrae," the younger Powell, who was a lieutenant at the time, told Parade magazine. "Ironically, Dad had just been named President Reagan's national security adviser." Powell was hospitalized for more than a year and was finally discharged from the Army with a 100 percent disability. Now he's a second-year law student at Georgetown University.
