Thomas Ewing swept to victory in an election to complete U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ed Madigan's term in the U.S. House, holding onto the seat for the Republicans.

The lawyer and state legislator received 25,675 votes, or 66 percent, to Democrat Gerald Bradley's 13,011 votes, or 34 percent, in a special election Tuesday."You have to be kind of humbled by this kind of support," said Ewing, a member of the state House since 1975.

The 55-year-old Ewing, who will be sworn in July 9, will serve the remaining 18 months of Madigan's term, then could face re-election in a district with new boundaries because of redistricting.
