Despite worries of art experts, Frank Sinatra has been given the go-ahead to sing in the ruins of Pompeii next month.

Organizers have promised to prevent excited fans from damaging or stealing from the richly decorated roofless villas in what was once the sumptuous seaside resort of imperial Rome.Baldassare Conticello, chief archaelogist at the site, said he decided to allow Sinatra to sing in Pompeii's amphitheater on condition police seal it off from the rest of the ruins.

About 10 years ago, fans of Pink Floyd left a lot of damage behind, he said. "But I should think that for Sinatra most of the fans will be in their 60s like me."
