Jose Canseco continues his love affair with the city of Toronto.
Canseco hit two homers Sunday, including a grand slam, for his 40th and 41st of the season, leading the Oakland Athletics to a 10-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays."The SkyDome is definitely my favorite place to hit," Canseco said. "I love to take advantage of the good visibility and the fact that the ball carries well here. My first homer might have gone out in Oakland, but my second would have been an easy out."
In 12 games since it's opening in June 1989, Canseco has batted a solid .367 at the SkyDome with nine home runs and 26 RBI.
Canseco was 7 for 13 in the three-game series with 10 RBI. Two of his three grand slams have come at the SkyDome.
Toronto's AL East lead was cut to 31/2 games over the Boston Red Sox, 5-4 victors over the New York Yankees.
Canseco hit a two-run homer in the first. Todd Stottlemyre, 13-8, struck Canseco in the mid-section with a pitch in the sixth inning, but it didn't slow the A's slugger down, as Canseco hit a grand slam in the ninth.
Canseco's six RBI, a career high, boosted his season's total to 111. He is tied with Detroit's Cecil Fielder for the American League home run lead and second to Fielder in RBI.
"The fans love me here so I don't want to disappoint them," said Canseco, only slightly tongue-in-cheek - a fan threw his first home run ball back onto the field. "Actually the fans in Oakland are much more abusive towards me than in Toronto. I think a lot of fans really respect me in Toronto."
Mike Moore, 14-8, won for the third time in three starts against the Blue Jays this season. He pitched seven innings and allowed four runs on six hits. Dennis Eckersley pitched the final 12/3 innings to become the first player to reach 40 saves in three seasons.
