John M. Elzey, 60, Weber State University theater professor, died Friday, Sept. 27, 1991, of cancer.

Weber State's fifth annual "Faculty Showcase of Talent" on Oct. 3 will be dedicated to the memory of Elzey, an Ogden and Weber State alumnus who served as student body president during the 1950s. He joined the Weber State faculty in 1959 and was a regular performer in the annual talent show by Weber State's Department of Performing Arts faculty.Elzey directed dozens of plays at Weber State and was a frequent guest director at the Utah Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City. His areas of special interest included Japanese, theatrical techniques and stage combat. In 1988, hereceived an emeritus achievement award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The free faculty showcase will be presented Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Austad Auditorium of the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., or Tuesday , prior to services. Interment in Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the Department of Performing Arts at Weber State University.
