Harold Freeze Folland died Jan. 17, 1992 in a local hospital of congestive heart failure.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Oct. 1, 1906, the son of William H. and Grace Freeze Folland. He married Helen Budge July 3, 1946, in Salt Lake City. He received his education at East High School in Salt Lake City and at Harvard University where he was awarded his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in addition to the Sheldon Travelling Fellowship for 1929-1930.He is listed in Who's Who in American Education. He taught for more than thirty years at the University of Utah, where he was Professor of English and Theatre. He was active as a performer in the University Theatre in more than forty plays. His publications include "The Shepherd Of The Ocean," written with Jack Adamson, and "Sir Harry Vane, His Life And
Times," also with Jack Adamson. He also published several articles in literary journals.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.
As a member of the University faculty, he served on eleven University committees and five departmental committees and was chairman of the English Department from 1961 to 1964.
He is survived by his wife, his son Gerald of Seattle and his brothers Donald F. and Edward F. Folland, both of Salt Lake City.
A memorial service will be held at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Monday, Jan. 20, at 12:00 Noon. Friends wishing to do so may contribute to the Utah Symphony.
