To the editor:
Utah has never had a more important election year. We have an open governorship, an open senate seat and an open congressional seat. And many issues are reaching crisis proportions. We need a campaign centered on these issues - on wide-ranging, educational debates that are focused on ideas and principles and vision - and on the background and qualifications of candidates.
My resolution for 1992 is, win or lose, to continue to run a campaign on issues, qualifications, to resist an overreliance on endorsements and to completely avoid negative campaigning in any form.
I invite all other Utah candidates to join me in this resolution; all Utah media to cover substance, sponsor debates and ignore negativism; and all Utah citizens to get involved in a participating campaign that lifts our state to new levels.
