Milwaukee Bucks veteran center Moses Malone will undergo surgery Wednesday to remove a herniated disc in his back and will miss up to half the season.
Malone, who missed the entire preseason due to the injury, decided to undergo surgery after meeting with Bucks' orthopedic consultant Dr. David Haskell.Haskell will perform the operation at Elmbrook Hospital in Milwaukee. He will remove a herniated disc which has been pinching the root of Malone's sciatic nerve.
The 37-year-old Malone will be hospitalized for approximately two days and will begin a light exercise program immediately after surgery followed by a rehabilitation program.
Malone, who played in all 82 games last season, is entering his 17th season in the NBA. He joined Milwaukee last season after signing as a free agent and led the Bucks in rebounding, averaging 9.1 boards a game.
