An explosion caused by leaking gas demolished a three-story apartment building in a rundown district of Naples, Italy, Wednesday, killing at least six people and injuring eight, police and fire officials said.

Local residents told police they heard a loud bang just before the tenement collapsed in at 5:10 a.m.Rescuers recovered six bodies and took eight injured residents to city hospitals. But more than seven hours after the explosion police said they feared another eight people were still trapped under the wreckage.
