A convicted drug trafficker believed to be a top member of the Medellin cocaine cartel was arrested Friday two years after a daring escape from a Puerto Rican prison, the Colprensa news agency said Saturday.

Lazaro Diaz Fernandez, 30, a native of Cuba, threatened to jump from the 12th floor of a building before he was arrested by police Friday in Cartagena, Colprensa said.Diaz Fernandez, known by his alias "Seventeen," came to Colombia after he escaped in a helicopter from a maximum security prison in San Juan in March 1990, sources said. He was serving a life term for drug smuggling and money laundering, the report said.
