Kays Cross, a manmade stone and mortar cross in Kays Hollow that has been the centerpiece of a popular teenage hangout for decades, was blown up about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Davis County Sheriff's Department.
The 12-foot stone, mortar and metal-reinforced cross in the bottom of the hollow just off the Kaysville City Cemetery was destroyed in the explosion, according to sheriff's department Capt. Colin Hart.The sheriff's department is investigating the incident because Kays Hollow is in the county.
"We don't really have any leads yet. The crime lab went out and is investigating. It had to be a pretty strong explosive, though," Hart said.
