Utah State announced the official signing of six athletes Saturday. The Aggies received letters of intent from one running back, one quarterback, one wide receiver, one defensive back, one defensive lineman and one athlete who played three positions in high school.
Jared Burnham, USU's first in-state athlete to officially sign, comes to the Aggie program from Bear River High School in Garland, Utah. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Burnham earned all-state honors in the offensive backfield at Bear River as a junior and a senior. Two twin brothers, Kevin and Korey Alexander, come to USU from Valencia High School in Placentia, Calif. Kevin, a 5-9, 170-pound wide receiver, and Korey, a 5-9, 170-pound defensive back, both ran identical times in both the 100 and 400 meters in the California state track meet.
Matt Wells, a 6-3, 190-pound quarterback from Sallisaw, Okla., was recruited by Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Stanford.
Matt Hauk, a 6-3, 270-pound defensive lineman from Los Alomitos, Calif., is considered a hard worker with good, quick feet.
Shawn Turner is a 6-2, 180-pound all-around athlete who played quarterback, wide receiver and free safety at Nampa High School in Nampa, Idaho. Turner also won the 400 meters at the Idaho state track and field meet as a sophomore and junior.
The new signings brings the list of athletes to 12 on the year that have officially signed with USU this season. Due to this year's NCAA ruling banning institutions from releasing the names of athletes until the staff has received the letter in hand, the announcing of recruits will be an on-going process over the next several days.
