Dancer Katherine Dunham rejected a plea from ousted Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to end her fast protesting the forced return of Haitian refugees.

"We told her we want her to always be alive," Aristide said after meeting Monday with Dunham. The 82-year-old dancer and choreographer began fasting Feb. 1 to protest the Sept. 30 ouster of Aristide, Haiti's first freely elected president.

She vowed to continue fasting until he is restored to power and the United States stops repatriating Haitian refugees who fled after the coup.
